27 Halloween Freakout

This is what the last week of October feels like...I am probably muttering to myself, "Put it back...pick it up...please don't rip open the packages...pick it up, on the floor, pick it up...what's the PLU? Where's the book? Who took the book?...That's 4.99$ Can I help you? No we're sold out of those ma'am.....Hallow-freakin-ween....festival of crap....on the floor...pick it up...."

26 Halloweiner

I was hired last year to be the 'Halloween' person. Why I'm doing it again, I have no idea. I'm obviously stoopid.
I don't know the reasoning for making all the costumes either. It's something about creativity vs pre-packaged consumption....

25 Helpful Suggestion

I have taken upon myself to design a new team uniform.

24 Of course I'm proud to work here

The real Kevin doesn't look like the kid from 'The Wonder Years' quite so much.

23 The End of the Innocence....

I was getting tired of the wholesome schtick anyways.

22 Loyalty

Am I embarassed? Yes.
Am I a little proud? maybe....

Doesn't 'Team Member' sound so much nicer than 'Wage Slaver'?

21 Toydozer

Hahaha! Part of the reason #20 took me so long was that I had to do this drawing in exchange for using C's likeness! So, by request, this is C--- taking out the toy aisle with his 'toydozer.'

This is the event that started the series of comics. It was in February. For various reasons, it has taken me this long to tackle it. A difficult drawing.
It was the end of sale day. Probably ten o'clock at night, we were getting ready to go home when someone said, "There's a customer outside." She had been the last customer out, big nasty woman - Jabba the Hut in a blonde wig- gave the cashier a hard time.... She was now banging on the glass yelling that we owed her 2.50$, we had overcharged her, cheated her.... We're all standing there, unsure what to do, trying not to make eye contact... The store closed half an hour ago, and she is MAD. Finally B--- gets a collection together. "We know her, she's crazy. It's best we just give her the money so she goes away." So the girls pooled their change together and C--- opened the door a crack and gave it to Jabba. She went and sat in her car until we all left.
I am absolutely terrified of this woman....and of course the next sales day she comes to my till...and that's another drawing I don't want to do.

19 I Saw the Mug

I am making fun of myself.
PS. I think I do like my job, and I am beginning to let go of collecting Muppet toys. It's all just stuff.

18 The Grail

Animated gifs are so fun! I'm going to make more!
When I started working at my store, I jokingly said I would quit when I found a Gonzo mug, because, you know, that would be the universe giving me a sign that it was time to move on.I now wish to revoke that statement; I would like to think my destiny is under my control, and not dependent on the movements of a piece of pottery.

17 Worst Customer of the Day

16 Doing Nothin'

It was sale day about 7pm...I was put on the 'extra' till to handle a big purchase....This grandma, with enormous frightening bosoms wrapped in enormous frightening paisleys, was buying her piggish grandsons 47 videos (including 2 copies of Beethoven 2nd) and then spent TWENTY MINUTES looking through her purse for her credit card, giving me ample time to study all the details...the ziploc bags full of carefully catergorized garbage in her purse, the place where her shirt was threatening to come untucked....I am not making this up.

15 A Regular

Please don't think I am a mean person. There is a lot of tenderness in this drawing.

14 It's all in the wrist

Yes, another thrilling moment in the exciting world of retail.

13 Sketches

Really HILARIOUS drawings of me getting mad. Not something I do much in real life, therefore too much fun to draw.

13 The Boar

Is this funny at all? I can't tell anymore. I have been fighting with this one for a month. very insecure about writing, pacing...
and yes I SWORE!

11 THE EXPERT

10 Sketches

Some of the many, many, sketches I did for this topic. These have more 'bite' than the final I think.

10 Awkward

I noticed when I'm waiting for the customer to do something I either scratch my arm or pull on my earring. Gawd I'm awkward.

9 Worst Customer of the Day

8 Breaking News Flash

This was a strange beautiful awkward moment. There was a lot of mumbling and I'm not sure she actually said the word 'sorry' but I'll take what I can get. I don't remember the incident but in the unfathomable strangeness of the universe, I think it might have been her.

7 Hypocrisy

Click to see it bigger, please.

6 Hand-me-down Shoes

I'm cleaning the shoe department and this song comes on, and I basically LOSE IT. Laugh hysterically. Oh well, I'm sure everybody there already thinks I'm a fruitcake anyways. In case you haven't figured it out, I work at a thrift store.

5 Puzzle

HAHAHAHAHAHA! I don't know how I keep a straight face some days....

4 Murphy's Law

One of my favourite things at work was the sunlight shining through the coloured glass in the afternoons. A bit tawdry, perhaps, but it made me happy. Murphy's law at work: they've now moved it to a dark shelf at the back.

3 Washroom

When customers ask to use the washroom, they get this look on their face. It's getting so that I know what they want even before they speak. They are super-duper polite to me. And yet, inexplicably, in that moment, I sort of....well, HATE them.

2 Pickpocket

At work I've been warned of all the ways customers try to take advantage of us. I've only just realized that some customers think we're out to scam them as well. Nobody trusts anybody.
Disclaimer: slightly crude sketch above is meant to show how the two sides view each other, in any store. If I thought my store was ripping people off. I wouldn't work there.

1 Nickel

I work part-time at a store that will remain nameless. I can't believe I fought this crazy woman over a nickel. Her purchase was only a few dollars and she gave me a handful of change, but came up a few cents short and I asked for another coin...and she didn't want to give it to me. She kept muttering, 'I'm not rich you know. I don't have a job'. Then she thought I didn't give her enough change. What's missing from this drawing is the lineup of people behind her and my hand starting to tremble. I guess I won. Somehow I don't think I did.
